Oklahoma City
🇨🇴 En el quinto día de nuestro viaje llegamos a la ciudad de Oklahoma. Usualmente Mommy ha buscado en internet qué sitios se pueden visitar en la parada del día. Los lugares esta vez eran Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum y una pista de hielo junto a los jardines botánicos.
Hay muchos tipos de museos. De arte, de cultura, de ciencia, de historia, etc. Nosotros hemos visitado varios museos de historia y es triste pero importante todo lo que se puede aprender de los eventos súbitos y violentos.
Usualmente una comunidad demuestra cómo honra el valor de la vida humana en respuesta a un acto violento en el que unos pocos decidieron dedicarse a destruir vidas a nombre de una supuesta causa a favor de la cuál no logran nada. Cuando se aprende de estos eventos por lo menos las vidas perdidas asumen más valor. En este caso el evento fue cuando un par de hombres en los noventas destruyeron la mitad de un edificio federal con una bomba, matando a más de ciento cincuenta.
Después del museo almorzamos y fuimos a la pista de hielo que tienen temporalmente junto a los jarines botánicos. Era la única cuadra con gente y movimiento en una ciudad que de otro modo parecía abandonada la mitad del día entre semana; nos imaginamos, por Navidad.
Felizmente salimos de la sesión de patinaje sin accidentes. 🍌
🇺🇸 On the fifth day of our trip we arrived at Oklahoma City. Usually Mommy has searched online for places to visit on each leg of the trip. This time it would be the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum and an ice skating rink by the botanical gardens.
There are many types of museums. Art, culture, science, history, etc. We have visited several history museums and what can be learned from sudden and violent events is both sad and important.
Communities usually demonstrate the ways in which they honor human lives in reaction to a violent act during which a few decided to destroy human lives in the name of a supposed cause in favor of which they ultimately accomplish nothing. When lessons are gleaned from these events then at least the lives lost represent a greater value. In this case the event occurred when a couple of men during the 90’s destroyed half of a federal building with a bomb, killing over 150 people.
After the museum we had lunch and went to the ice rink by the botanical gardens. It was the only block in the city that looked lively. The rest of the city seemed abandoned in the middle of a weekday; due to the Christmas holiday, we assume.
We’re glad to have finished this skating session unscathed. 🍌
