Four Corners
🇨🇴 Dormimos muy bien a pesar del frío que hizo afuera por la noche. El carro amaneció cubierto de escarcha en la mitad del desierto. Cuando estuvimos listos pasamos la mañana explorando el pueblo de Bluff.
Primero fuimos al Pánel de Petroglifos de Sand Island. Ahí caminamos junto a una pared de piedra en la que los antiguos habitantes del área inscribieron imágenes durante siglos, antes de la colonización europea.
Después caminamos por Bluff Fort. Es un museo al aire libre donde se muestran viviendas de la época de los pioneros que establecieron lo que ahora es el pueblo de Bluff.
Menos de una hora más tarde, rumbo sureste, habíamos salido de Utah, pasado unos minutos a Colorado, y entrado a New Mexico, finalmente parqueando frente a Arizona. Nos encontrábamos en el Four Corners Monument (Monumento de las cuatro esquinas), que es un marcador geográfico.
Para complicar las cosas el marcador queda en tierra gobernada por la Nación Navajo. Es el lugar legalmente acordado donde limitan los estados de Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico y Utah, y el único lugar donde limitan cuatro estados en los Estados Unidos.
De ahí avanzamos a pasar la noche en Bloomfield, NM. 🍌
🇺🇸 We slept well in spite of the cold weather. At dawn the car was covered in frost in the middle of the desert. Once we were ready we spent the morning exploring the town of Bluff.
First we went to the Sand Island Petroglyph Panel. There we walked by a wall of rock where the ancient peoples of the area inscribed images over centuries, before European colonization.
We later walked around Bluff Fort. It’s an open-air museum where with pioneer era dwellings. It shows life as it was in what would later be the town of Bluff.
Less than an hour later, due southeast, we had left Utah, spent a few minutes driving in Colorado, and entered New Mexico, finally parking right in front of Arizona. We found ourselves at the Four Corners Monument; a geographic marker.
To complicate things a bit, the marker sits on Navajo Nation lands. It’s the legally agreed upon place where the borders of the states of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah meet, and the only such four-state limit in the United States.
From there we drove on to spend the night in Bloomfield, NM. 🍌
